red sun.
and don’t let me look away.
we see eye to eye, eye for eye
as the dull gold twilight withers the passing day.
together by the iridescent moon
blending in pale blue and curls of smokey gray,
sail me into the fading horizon
and promise me you’ll forever stay.
whisper into my ear your sweet nothings
about your yesterday and our today,
distract me with your sinful temptation
from the divine word in which you stray.
as the midnight looks down upon us
with the same starlight under which we’ll eternally lay,
don’t let me see the red sun coming
until it’s already too late.
in between my burnt fingertips
with a gold coin I must pay,
my past self enters the depths of hell,
and for death’s cause i must say:
the red sun was in his eyes;
my fate’s end was always demise and decay.
but for the fleeting euphoria of false pleasure
i would never have it any other way.

author's note:
inspired by the red sun today because of all the fires going on.
red sun: symbolizes an omen of death
